I started the my first 3 month clinical today.
Setting:
Outpatient (Orthopedics primarily). But the clinic resides in a really nice fitness club.Population:
I have seen 3 shoulders, some carpal tunnel, and some trigger finger release. Will be good learning that can relate to every setting. Makes me realize how much I truly enjoy neuro.
Clinical Instructor:
30 years as an OTR and has a plan for students(aka I have some projects to complete). I think she will be a good teacher as long as I put forth effort to initiate the learning. It is an interesting situation because I am not the only student with my CI. She also is supervising a OTA student. I am now interested in the roles of a COTA as compared to an OTR in outpatient. This is the question I aim to answer. OT friends have any advice here?(post in comments)
The Day:
Not too shabby first day. Just observing for the first week. Two patients the next week and increase in load from then on. I realize when it comes to outpatient occupational therapy I learned so much from my years as a tech and maybe...just maybe...I might have retained some good stuff from school. I think this is a good placement except for the fact that if a patient misses a session...down time (I enjoy fast paced) and
I MISS MY HUSBAND!
