I know I'm slacking...

I am sitting in my OWN living room with a cup of coffee in my hand and still in my pjs in reflection of the past couple of weeks.

Yes I know, I know...I have not posted in a while.
I have been to exhausted & missing my husband....

I just completed week 3 of level 2 fieldwork (7am-6pm M-TH). Here are a few things that you missed:
  • I have an AMAZING husband. He makes me feel so special. Second week gone he had flowers waiting for me at home. Third week gone he had cookies, diet coke, and peanut M&Ms. He knows me and loves me unconditionally. OH and I am so proud of him. He has a new job at a great school with his own team and now will be teaching English...and it is where we want to find a house one day. GOD THING!
  • I think the third week of fieldwork I am supposed to have 4 patients....well lets put it this way: between me and the OTA student we are working the full caseload. I see all evals, reevals, discharges, and write all treatment plans. I think my OTR completed 2 last week.
  • I am getting to do eval and work with patients that my C.I. would typically refer to other therapists because it is not in her skill set. She knows I love challenges and neuro patients. I am BLESSED.
  • I am living with such a sweet lady. I know God was in this one. If you are reading this know I think you are a beautiful amazing woman of God.
Now off to enjoy my second cup of coffee, some good music, and having my husband in the same city.

Still Breathing...Week One Complete

Status: Week One DONE!

It has been a long week but I am still breathing and still holding on for dear life. First week over and I probably feel more crazed than before because guess what: I actually get patients of my own. I have one but next week there is no limit on new evals for yours truly.

Thoughts:
Not the setting I want for a career. Too much like physical therapy and not enough function...but to heal a rotator cuff or wrist you just do it a certain way...cool...book study time.

I am going to figure out how to make a silly wrist, shoulder, elbow or whatever other upper extremity that is broken have a more functional treatment plan.

And if you are going to manufacture a exercise thing for therapy...come up with better names...so confusing.

God places you in a location for a reason...ask the husband...that will create opportunity in the future. Therefore I will allow this challenge to provide me with every opportunity to grow and learn.I know that he has a plan for me and I am so very excited to see what that may be...HERE IS to JOY!

Day 1

Source

I started the my first 3 month clinical today.

Setting:
Outpatient (Orthopedics primarily). But the clinic resides in a really nice fitness club.

Population:
I have seen 3 shoulders, some carpal tunnel, and some trigger finger release. Will be good learning that can relate to every setting. Makes me realize how much I truly enjoy neuro.

Clinical Instructor:
30 years as an OTR and has a plan for students(aka I have some projects to complete). I think she will be a good teacher as long as I put forth effort to initiate the learning. It is an interesting situation because I am not the only student with my CI. She also is supervising a OTA student. I am now interested in the roles of a COTA as compared to an OTR in outpatient. This is the question I aim to answer. OT friends have any advice here?(post in comments)

The Day:
Not too shabby first day. Just observing for the first week. Two patients the next week and increase in load from then on. I realize when it comes to outpatient occupational therapy I learned so much from my years as a tech and maybe...just maybe...I might have retained some good stuff from school. I think this is a good placement except for the fact that if a patient misses a session...down time (I enjoy fast paced) and

I MISS MY HUSBAND!
